Bob and Beth Xavier Prayer Letter, May 2000
From Christian Martial Arts Evangelism
Dear Beloved Friends and Prayer Partners,
We thank the Lord for your examples of faithful, open-hearted love shown toward our ministry efforts to reach out to lost, hurting families and individuals with the Good News of Real Life In Christ. God's Word, His love and your supportive encouragement continue to motivate our family to endure the many hardships and disappointments that accompany ministry to hurting families. Your ministry partnership is being used mightily to help reconcile destitute, lost souls to God's family.
The past twenty-plus years of missionary service have been filled with magnificent treasures of blessings, challenges and difficulties. One of the especially difficult aspects of ministry has been relating to the awesome pains of abandonment, rejection and abuse that so many of the children I am working with feel continually. Your prayer partnership and support is being utilized as an expression of God's open heart to reaching hurting families with the Gospel of the Grace of God.
If We Don't, Who is Going to Reach America's Youth With the Gospel of the Grace of God?
By the time young people enter twelfth grade, 70% of them will have become victims of divorced homes! Children are being exposed to a wide variety of life-destroying social and family problems that leave them with devastating, shamebased, dysfunctional consequences. There are over 1.2 million reported teenage runaways each year. Unmarried teen pregnancy, also, is above one million annually. Crime is of epidemic proportion! According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report, a crime is being committed every two seconds and a robbery every 46 seconds. Violent crime continues to soar, while illegal street drugs are increasingly available. "Where sin abounds, grace does much more abound. "
But for the Grace of God, There Go I...
I was once a lost, timid child, a victim of fear, abandonment, rejection and abuse, confused, deeply hurting, spiritually lost and without hope. For many years I attempted to fill my emptiness through perform ance-based acceptance and self confidence gained by martial arts education. In 1971, the Lord began convicting me of my sin condition and the need that I had to receive God's forgiveness, love and acceptance. The Lord used a dedicated Christian, John Chung Li, my Chinese martial arts teacher, from Yale University, to lead me away from secular humanism and to guide me to recognize Jesus Christ as God, Creator and to receive Him as my Lord and Savior. July 4, 1976, 1 knew that Christ had become my Life. God began comforting me and filling my emptiness with His presence. My heart began to become burdened for the many hurting young people who were lost, as I once had been. After acquiring a grace-centered Bible education, my beloved Beth and I were invited to become missionaries with the Things to Come Mission. We began a street ministry for young people, called Welcome Home Ministry, Key West, where we served for six years. When the ministry was established, we moved to Manatee County, Florida, to raise our three children, Rebecca, Jonathan and Rachel.
Our ministry presently is operating several Addicted to Christ Support Groups and three residential homes for men who desire to overcome a variety of sin-addictions. We continue to provide Biblical, grace-centered family counseling.
The Beginning of Christian Martial Artists Reaching Young People Around the World with the Good News of Real Life In Christ
To Real Life as Christian Servant Leaders
Over the past twenty-five years, the Lord has given us an effective ministry tool called Christian Martial Arts Evangelism (CMAE). We have accumulated hundreds of testimonies from young people and teens, proving that God is using His Word, through CMAE, to help equip them to become full-time Christian servants. A fourteenyear-old run-away, named Bonnie, slept on our kitchen floor in our one-bedroom apartment in Colorado. She now is a Christian educator teaching in Idaho.
Aaron, from Toronto, now a 4 th term missionary pastor with 4 children, is serving in East Germany.
John, from 3 generations of alcoholism, now is a Greek Professor at Greater Grace Bible College.
Allen, from being a rookie cop in Key West, now is providing Christian ministry to single moms by repairing their cars.
Greg, from L.A., a former gang leader and inmate, now provides Christian Martial Arts evangelism.
Scott, coming from being- emotionally challenged and struggling with additions, is now part of a national Christian truckers' ministry.
Ronnie, a teen, came from pretending to know Christ, to really knowing Him and making Him known.
The individuals mentioned are only a very few real-life examples of our Lord's utilizing Christian Martial Arts as a ministry tool to impact wounded hearts to become wounded healing hearts.
Grace Martial Arts Fellowship, GMAF.org
Two years ago, Pastor Mark McGee, the News Manager / Journalist with Channel 10, Columbus, Georgia, and I began to develop a worldwide Grace Evangelism Ministry. There presently are approximately 80 Christian martial arts members. Mark publishes the monthly Grace Martial Arts Fellowship (GMAF) newsletter. Mark is a webmaster and a former Grace pastor, whose devotion to sharing the finished work of Christ is outstanding. If you are on-line, please, conside receiving our GMAF monthly newsletter. We are committed to helping support and encourage Christian martial artists to reach youth around the world with the Good News of Real Life In Christ.
GMAF ministry is utilizing the high interest that martial arts holds among young people as a ministry tool designed to help youth to confidently place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and to enjoy Him. The program shares the common intent of building godly character, resolving conflict nonviolently and promoting physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
The goals of GMAF instructors are to encourage and equip their students to grow in faith and knowledge of their Christian identity -- to fully understand that Christ is IN them and they are IN Christ. We are in the process of developing a teaching model for Christian instructors around the world. The model will equip and strengthen a young person to be able to share his/her faith with other youth, to guide non-Christian children and their parents into a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and to teach them to apply Grace-centered, Scriptural principles to their lives.

Daughter Rebecca surgery very successful!
Our family is growing up quickly. Rachel, our youngest, already is eight years old and loves life to its fullest! She has been such a blessing to Beth and me and our two older kids, Rebecca, now eighteen, and Jonathan, fifteen. Each one of our kids' lives is focused uniquely on Jesus Christ, the best blessing a parent could have! A few weeks ago we had some non-Christian college young people visiting us in our home. We observed Rachel's evangelism efforts, as she had each one of our young guests help her to learn and review her Awana Bible book. None of the college young people knew they were being set up by an eightyear-old to be evangelized. They did not know that our little Rachel already knew her Bible verses forward and backward. She kept our young college guests thinking that they were helping her, never realizing that Rachel was using her Awana Bible booklet to introduce each of them to the person of Jesus Christ. Thank you, Lord, for giving us the privilege of parenting this little jewel of a daughter for Your glory.
Every mature parent recognizes it is much easier to build a child than to repair a rebellious, broken, hurting adult. When we closed our women's recovery homes, because we were not able to replace our resident director, we acquired three recovery homes for men. The Lord is immensely blessing the men's ministry with outstanding leadership. Mr. Mike Baker provides leadership for the men's homes and facilitates Addicted To Christ aftercare support groups for the men and their families. We have had upwards of forty individuals participate within the small group evening ministry. Christ-centered support group ministry is God's alternative to the secular AA groups. Please, continue to pray for the men of the ministry. Thank you.
Joy Unspeakable
We exceedingly love this family ministry. We love seeing kids and their parents spending time together, learning and sharing newly acquired skills, talking together about spiritual issues and learning to share their faith through Scripture memory, personal testimonies and rehearsed skits. The single, most inspirational motivation for my ministry perseverance with youth is that each individual student, kid or adult is becoming better equipped to share his/her faith in Christ.
We have six weeks of Christian Martial Arts daycamps scheduled for this summer. The ministry training teaches life-skills that encourage in children the qualities we all want-- godliness, courage, truthfulness and strength.
Thank you so very much for your loving support and ministry provisions. It is such a wonderful privilege and joy to be co-laborers with the Lord and to share a ministry partnership with you.
Joyfully In Grace and Love,
