Serving the Lord
Joe and Michelle Campos are proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to the people of Natal, a city in northeastern Brazil. The goal is to plant a Grace church in that city. Joe is also working with other Brazil missionaries to establish a distance training program using digital technology to raise up pastors and leaders for the churches.
Michelle and Joe also work together in a ministry to share the love of Christ with needy children, called PROJECT ABBA. This project is responsible for the training of Sunday school leaders, it runs a Christian Education library for the churches, and distributes clothing, medication and dental care when available to the children of our churches. In addition, Michelle is very busy taking care of a family of four beautiful children.
Email Update - May 19, 2008
“May be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen”. (Ephesians 3:18-21)
Dear Friend,
I would like to thank you for praying for me and my family through this very difficult time in our lives. We are still trying to adjust to the idea of not having my mother around and the kids not having their grandma. They were very close to her and she meant a lot to them; just a week before they spent a good time with her and now they don’t understand why they can’t see her anymore. For me it has been a deep lost; my mother was always there for me and she was the only in the beginning to support me in the ministry. She will always be remembered as my greater encourager. She was the first one to accept the Lord when I shared with my family members and that gives me a great peace of mind to know that she is with the Lord now.
We are heading to Recife again this Wednesday and we are going to be there until Sunday. Part of this trip will be to take care of my mother’s belongings and the other part will be for ministry. We have many things ahead of us this year; we are currently working in the licensing and ordination procedure for pastors, the developing of national team to lead the ministry in Brazil, and the new church we are planting in Natal. We believe these things are essential to the development of the ministry here and they are necessary steps to the progress of the Grace Gospel in Brazil. Urian Rios is now working on a Training by Extension program to better train our people for the ministry and our future pastors. This has been a great need for us because Brazil is a huge country and re-location is very expensive and we believe we have found the answer to address the training of many individuals throughout the country. Urian has completed the first class of the program and I am currently working on the second class, while he is also working on another class. Our plans are to end this year with a complete year for the program and add one at time in order to have the complete program ready.
We are going to have a very busy June and July. Terrah Befus, second oldest daughter of Chuck and Joy Befus (Missionaries in Coast Rica under GMI), is going to spend the month of June in Recife, as part of her Missiology internship at GBC. We are praying that this will be a growing experience both for Terrah and for the missionaries. Back in 2000 for my internship in Pastoral Theology I was able to come to Brazil as well, and it was well worth it. Terrah will work with our senior high girls in the area of discipleship and our kids program in many capacities.
Right after Terrah leaves we will be welcoming a team of 10 members from our home church (Berean Bible Church in Byron Center). Pastor Dwayne Huff will be leading this group and they will be assisting us with VBS in three different churches, home visitations, youth ministries, church services, AWANA, some small repairs in the church buildings, etc. This is the second team from our home church that visits the ministry in northeast Brazil and we are excited about ministering with them. Last time I talked to Pastor Dwayne they were having some difficulty raising all the necessary funds to pay for the tickets and expenses here, so we ask you that you pray for this need and that they will be able to trust Christ for all of their needs.
As far as the personal needs we presented in our last e-mail, we are still waiting for the Lord to provide for two of them. God miraculously provided for our moving expenses and we want to thank those of you who gave towards this and for you that prayed for this need. The two needs that we are still waiting for God to provide to us:
A car that fits our family and does not break too often - $ 7500
One Bedroom closet for the girls - $ 1110
As you have noticed the amount in dollars for these needs have raised from a month ago because of the dollar devaluation.
In His Powerful Name,
Joe and Michelle, Elly, Jessica, Nathan, and Isabelle Campos
